Chapter 1
Alexandra
When you least expect it, life places you in situations that open your eyes and your mind when needed. While having lunch yesterday afternoon, I eavesdropped on a table of girls sitting behind me. One of the girls talked about how happy her life was, now, thanks to her newfound word.
YES.
She started saying YES to everything.
A guy asked her out, and she said yes, though she felt no attraction towards him. The date did not go well, but he asked her for a second date, and she said yes anyway. During the second date, while fooling around the guy dry humped her leg like a dog. Though turned off by the whole doggie dry humping thing she still said yes when he asked her on a third date.
Then her coworker asked her to try something new, and she said yes though she barely liked the girl and showed no interest in the activity.
She became The YES Girl and was having the time of her life.
She said everything started working out for her. The “doggie dry humping” guy turned into a six week and counting relationship, and she realized giving him another chance gave her more time to discover his sexless love life left him over enthusiastic which was not a bad thing considering he channeled that enthusiasm when they finally did have sex.
And though the girls could be downright angry competitive, she enjoyed Dragon rowing. Ironically, the coworker who suggested she try dragon rowing, she now likes a little more. In turn, she gained a new extra-curricular activity, a new friend, and killer arms.
Normally, I do not compare myself to anyone, but listening to this girl rattle on about how happy she felt since adopting this new attitude got me thinking.
I never say yes. On those rare occasions when guilt takes over, and I agree to do something, I always regret it and find a way to back out.
Quite honestly, I have perfected the art of saying no!
The problem with always saying no is it doesn’t lend itself to dating opportunities and recently, I find myself needing a man. Now, not just any man will do, I still have my standards but I’m willing to compromise for the sake of finding one and finding him quickly.
If for no other reason than I need sex in my life. I like sex. I bet I would like sex more with a great partner. Yes, a great partner to have sex with is what I need. I’m staring for a man.
Starving! Like when I’m in an elevator or a packed subway, and a good-looking man stands next to me, I try and stand a little closer just to breathe him in for those few minutes and absorb the heat coming off his skin, or maybe it’s my skin the heat is exuding from me. Which by the way almost never happens to me on the subway. I always get stuck next to the homeless person, reeking of urine, and having full on conversations with themselves.
So this morning when I almost picked up the phone to back out of attending the wedding of my coworker, and send an exorbitant check to soften the blow, I stopped myself.
Today is a new day. Today, I am The Yes Girl.
I feel quite confident I can do this. However, I like to err on the side of caution, don’t want to get all crazy because doggie dry humping is not my bag.
I’m not going to declare I will be The Yes Girl forever moving forward, but for today I will say yes to everything…
Okay, YES to most things… Yes, to most things I really want… Things I really, really want!
Chapter 2
Nick
I pace the lobby while mentally chastising myself. The girls’ change, but everything else about them is the same. I try to tell myself it’s them, but it’s all me.
I meet the same type of girl and expect a different outcome. This one is a new low for me. I foresaw how this night would end the moment she stepped into my car and slurred something in my ear. The stale odor of cigarettes coming off her skin and hair permeated the small space telling me she would top my list of worst dates.
Two things I despise: Inebriation and smoking. Inebriation I can give a pass to as long as it is not typical behavior, but I despise smoking. And my date is no casual smoker. She has gone outside six or seven times in the two hours we’ve been here.
I booked a room when I rsvp'd to the wedding but under no circumstance is she staying with me. This evening will end sooner rather than later at least where my date is concerned.
Earlier, I texted my driver giving him the heads up to be available since I will not be driving her home myself. I text him again making sure he is nearby.
While I wait for her to step out for another smoke, I head towards the hotel bar. The lights are low, and there are only a handful of people in the entire place, a perfect reprieve. I scroll through my e-mails while I take a seat at the bar and only look up when I hear a soft female voice say hello.
I turn to find a beautiful girl sitting two chairs down. She is not your blonde hair, perky nose beautiful. Her look has depth, the kind of face that is strikingly beautiful at first glance and becomes more intriguing the longer you stare. Her hair has layers of honey and chocolate colors that match her skin and eyes. Her eyes are a deep velvety chocolate rimmed by equally dark lashes. Her nose is straight but not too long, and her lips are full and naked.
The colors of her face reveal golden honey skin. Nothing like the girls, I date who layer on so much make-up that by morning they are unrecognizable, and their pillowcases look like the Shroud of Turin.
I stare at her for longer than I should. Her smile comes easily and stretches across her face showcasing most of her straight white teeth. She tilts her head to the side waiting for me to respond.
“I’m sorry did you say something,” I ask while her smile starts to fade. I try to recover it. “I mean I hope you’re talking to me.”
“Yes, just saying hello.” She adjusts herself in her chair to sit up taller.
Just as I introduce myself, the bartender interrupts us to take my drink order. I take my American Express Black card from my wallet. The card makes a loud snapping sound when it makes contact with the bar. I order a scotch and ask her if I can buy her a drink. She looks at me then down at my Amex.
I wait for it…the twinkle that appears in their eyes when girls first notice the Black Amex.
The bartender laughs and looks at her. “Hey, his card is the same as yours.”
“It seems so, but I’ll still let him buy me a drink.” She smiles.
<
br /> I shake my head and laugh as I extend my hand to her. “I’m Nick Ryan, nice to meet you.”
“Nick Ryan, nice to meet you, too. I’m Alexandra.” Her handshake is firm but her hand is small in comparison to mine and I enjoy hearing my name spoken from her lips.
She slides her hand out of my hand and points to my American Express card. “Is the card your go to when you try to pick up a girl?”
Caught off guard by her ribbing, but at the same time, I enjoy it. “I’ll be honest girls are easily impressed. Dropping this card on the bar is usually all it takes to lock in their attention for the rest of the night.” I pause. “But as I recall you said hello to me.”
Alexander turns back to me after acknowledging the bartender bringing our drinks. “Easily impressed?” she repeats my words back to me. “I get that when referring to girls but I cannot imagine it having the same effect on women.” She takes a sip of her wine. “And honestly there is nothing easy about an Black Amex.”
She examines me while sweeping her finger in the air from the top of my head down to my feet. “So you don’t think this has anything to do with getting their attention?”
At first, I think she is giving me a hard time, but, on second thought, I think she is flirting with me. Just not the flirting I expect from women. Usually, when girls flirt with me they are all touchy feely, the pitch of their voice changes, and they excessively giggle. This girl has different game.
“Yes, the card doesn’t come easily, or what it represents, as I’m sure you know,” I pause, “Unless, it’s your husband’s card.” I pick up my scotch glass and right before I take a sip I raise my eyebrow at her. “And did you just say you like the way I look?”
“I think you could be considered universally good-looking, and the card is mine.” She slowly turns the stem of her wine glass while eyeing me up. “Yes, I think everything about you could be considered universally appealing.”
“So you do think I’m good-looking and charming.” I take another sip of my scotch.
She whips her head around to face me. “I never said charming.”
“I thought I heard you say charming. I apologize for putting words in your mouth.” As I stare down at her mouth, she bites her lower lip. I want to put more than words in her mouth. “So tell me, how could a universally good looking guy pick up a beautiful woman such as yourself?”
She sweetly smiles giving me an answer I do not expect. “It depends on your definition of ‘pick up,' are you referring to a one-night stand or a date?”
Her blunt question makes my brain stutter.
I want it all. I want to take Alexandra up to my room and explore every inch of her body, I want to experience the noises she makes as I pleasure her, and I want to see her every day after that. “I’d like both.”
Alexandra blushes, but her eyes do not leave mine. She looks out of her element, and I can tell she is mentally deciding how far she wants to take this.
“Alexandra, why do I get the feeling you never go to a bar to pick up guys?”
A small smile crosses her face, and she nods. “You are correct. I’m not the type of girl who goes to a bar and picks up guys. And actually, this is not what’s going on here.” She motions back and forth with her finger at the space between us.
“No? Are you sure? Because I would accommodate you.”
She works a hard swallow down her throat as warmth rises to her cheeks.
“You’re blushing.” I gently move my fingers over her cheek. Her skin is soft and warm. She shivers at my touch, and all I want is to move her long wavy hair off her shoulder and cover her skin with my mouth while breathing in her scent.
There is silence between us, and I hear my heart pounding in my ears. Neither of us flinches when the bartender drops a glass behind the bar. It’s not until he is standing in front of us apologizing for the disruption, that I’m reminded we are not alone.
“So you must be attending one of the weddings,” I ask.
Her long pause tells me she is attempting to establish mental footing before she answers me.
“Yes.” Alexandra points in the direction behind her. “A coworker’s wedding.” She pauses, “and you?”
I point in the opposite direction of the wedding Alexandra pointed. “A good buddy of mine got married.” A disturbing possibility comes to mind, and without hesitation, I ask, “Are you here with a date?”
She looks at me with a shy smile. “If I had a date, I would not be sitting here alone.”
Unfortunately, this reminds me of my date. Well, I don’t consider it a date, more like a mistake. “Brave of you attending a wedding alone.” The thought of my date makes me wish I came alone.
“It doesn’t bother me. I am used to it. Except for tonight, which is why I’m here at the bar and not in there.” She points over her shoulder in the direction of the wedding. “I needed a breather.”
“What happened tonight?” Usually, I like the small talk that leads to sex and nothing more, but I find Alexandra entertaining, and she caught my attention, I want to know more.
“My ex- boyfriend showed up as a date to one of the guests. I should say as a fiancé.” She stops to let a deep sigh escape. “And I almost canceled, I should have, but I changed my mind to be more proactively social, saying yes to things…I don’t know what I was thinking.” She mumbles most of what she says.
“Do you still love him?” I hope she’s not pining away for an ex-boyfriend.
“No! I don’t think I ever did. He’s an ass and sexually weird, and when it ended, he said cruel things to me.” She admits.
I laugh to myself, but I am not sure if it’s because of the sexually weird part, or how cute she looks when she is frustrated. “Sexually weird? Like what are we talking bondage, animals, blow up dolls.” I can’t wait to here Alexandra’s definition of sexually weird.
Alexandra laughs. “Animals? I consider that way past sexually weird; the thought is deviant.”
I laugh. The girl is sexy, beautiful, and charming.
“No! No worse! He never made it past my chest. Not once! Not even for a quick introduction to Her.” Alexandra motions to her chest down to her lap.
So of course, I stare at her breasts, and though I understand why her ex might pay them extra attention, they should not get all the attention.
“So let me get this straight…bondage, animals, blow up dolls aren’t as bad as no oral sex?” This is getting interesting.
“Did I say that?” she pauses to rehash what she just said. “I guess I did…that’s curious.” She laughs while she takes another sip of her wine. “I don’t ever drink shots, but I might need one, and maybe a therapist.”
Now we both laugh.
“So seriously, did you ever ask him why?” In the few minutes of knowing Alexandra, I am confident I know the answer: She asked.
“Once. He said he never thinks about it. Can you believe he never thinks about it? Weird.” She looks at me not waiting for an answer. “At first I thought maybe it was Her.”
Alexandra points down between her legs at Her and my interest grows stronger, and so does His.
She continues. “You know she’s well cared for, I make sure of it.”
“I don’t know, but if you are any indication of what she is like I’m sure she’s magnificent,” I answer astutely while with my glass in hand points at Alexandra and then in the direction between her thighs. “And I would make sure every inch of you received equal time.”
Alexandra’s smile leaves her face when her mouth drops open, but she closes it quickly. She sighs, swallows, and licks her lips while her eyes hold mine. She shivers, again.
I want her.
Right now!
I will happily take care of Her.
But I stick to the topic at hand. “And what about the cruel things he said to you?” I am all seriousness when asking this question.
She straightens in her seat and stares straight ahead. “He said a lot of awful, painful things, and he told me I w
ould always be alone. And so far, he’s not wrong, and he got to witness just how alone I am.”
Sadness passes across her face. I want to hold her, to comfort her, tell her it is a lie. Ending relationships is never easy and awful things are said and forgotten, but for some reason, I think what that prick said hit a deeper nerve with Alexandra.
“I’m sorry I’m sharing this with you. It must be the wine, and because I’ll never see you again, so that makes it easier to open up to you.”
I don’t like the last thing she says, but as I am about to address it, my date walks over and interrupts us.
Shit, my date. I forgot about her.
“Nick, so this is where you’re hiding.” She wraps her arm around my back. My skin crawls. I don’t want her touching me. I don’t want her stench lingering on my clothes. “Who’s this Nick?” My date eyes Alexandra up and down.
I continue facing Alexandra. “This is Alexandra. Alexandra this is….” I pause because for the life of me I cannot remember her name.
“It’s Debbie.” She says in a loud, irritated voice, like nails on a chalkboard.
A smiling Alexandra happily extends her hand to Debbie. Instead of shaking hands, Debbie stares her down. Alexandra withdraws her hand and disappointment blankets her face. Alexandra seems oblivious to her own beauty, and how jealous insecure women might act in her presence.
Alexandra takes another sip of wine, looks at me, and shrugs her shoulders as if to say Oh well I tried.
I smile at Alexandra’s innocence then turn towards the scowling face of my date. Annoyed by her rudeness towards Alexandra, I need to remove her from this conversation. This entire evening disgusts me up until the moment I walked into this bar and began talking to Alexandra.
My date leans into my ear though I keep my focus on Alexandra. “I want to go to bed, and I need you to fuck the shit out of me.”
Her breath is boozy and blends with a stale cigarette smell. She is sloppy drunk and under no circumstance will I fuck her tonight or any night. She lifts her arm off me and moves behind me to get the bartender’s attention.
“I bet that whole Amex thing worked on her.” Alexandra keeps her voice low as she points with her index finger in a circular motion towards my credit card.
